““Ventspils nafta” terminals” (VNT), which is one of the largest and technologically most up-to-date oil and oil product transhipment company in the Baltic States, welcomed three students-girls of Ventspils Secondary School No. 2 on the Shadow Day. One of the shadowers was a student of a graduation class, while the other two students have another year to go to complete their secondary education. The students acted as shadows of Lars Pantzlaff, VNT Managing Director, Vilnis Riekstins, Operations Director and Valerijs Dringis, Operations Project Administrator.

During the day, the students were provided an opportunity to familiarise themselves with VNT both by listening to a narration about the company, and by viewing the territory and participating in meetings together with the managers.

“The Shadow Day we spent together, although it was a short moment of time, brought me back to my school years, when I was a shadower myself. These are very pleasant memories for me. For several hours, Svetlana, my shadow, showed great enthusiasm, while listening into discussions of various processes of VNT, understanding the complicacy of the terminal processes and the meaning of teamwork, when looking for solutions,” says Valerijs Dringis, VNT Operations Project Administrator, and expresses a true hope for further cooperation in the future.

Svetlana Ustimova, student of the 11 grade, points out that spending the Shadow Day at VNT and seeing the everyday work of Valerijs Dringis, VNT Operations Project Administrator, the administrator’s position has raised her interest, and, possibly Svetlana would choose to work in this or a similar position in the future.

“I think, I could work at VNT in the future, since both, the field of the company’s activity, and the shadowed position, raised my interest. Everything I saw showed that job in this sector is not simple, however, there are many interesting elements, above all, this job is important one,” concluded the student.

“Applying for the shadowing at VNT, I could not imagine that job in this company can be so complicated and interesting at the same time,” Anastasija Vasiljeva, student of the 11 grade, who shadowed Vilnis Riekstins, VNT Operations Director, shares her impressions. One of the tasks, which Anastasija found to be among the most complicated ones, was collective adoption of decisions, besides, climbing up to a tank, which was much to the young lady’s liking, is still a strong memory.

Jekaterina Bobricka, student of the 12  grade, also admits that everything she saw and heard on the Shadow Day has changed the previous impression about VNT. She was a shadow of Lars Pantzlaff, VNT Managing Director. “It turns out that a lot of interesting things can happen even in the everyday working environment. Somehow it attracts me, too, to work in VNT. The atmosphere prevailing within the company is also important for me – it is friendly in VNT, and this is another reason, why I would choose VNT as my place of work,” Jekaterina shares her contemplation.
