The Coast of Livonians in Photography and Music
In 2006, VN has sponsored a project involving two talented artists, i.e. Jānis Mednis, photographer, and Raimonds Tiguls, composer. Their joint co-operation resulted in the photo & music album called Zaļš, Balts, Zils (Green White Blue). The original form of the album, including both images & music of Livonian spiritual environment made to one CD became the first production of this kind that narrates about the coast of the Livs (Finno-Ugric people of Latvia) – a fascinating part of Latvia.
The album was named after the colours of the Livonian national flag and together with the ancient folk songs of the Livs in the contemporary arrangement has memorized the primary nature areas of their settlements, local environment and people, their homes and buildings, fisheries and traditional life style.
In the past, VN had already provided support for some projects aimed at preservation of unique properties of the Livonian coast, e.g. help rendered to the building of church in Mazirbe as well as the publication of the Livonian Language dictionary.
In honour of the company’s 45th anniversary, VN has donated the album Zaļš, Balts, Zils to all cultural and educational entities of Ventspils. In collaboration with the photographer Jānis Mednis, VN has published some images as a booklet of post cards as it holds geographical, cultural and historical uniqueness of the Livonian coast for the bright piece in the mosaic of all Latvian regions.
